Wakefield’s Guide to Health by Dr. C Wakefield of Bloomington Illinois. A pamphlet from 1893 on his patented cures for common illnesses. During this flu season as we line up for the flu shots we may not want to get, it is good to look back on the “cures” offered before we had such vaccines. This 1893 pamphlet provides a good window into the world of over one hundred years ago on the patented medicines offered to alleviate many ailments and the testimonials to their miraculous powers. This volume was contributed by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. You can find this volume and over 7,400 others from CARLI participant libraries in the Internet Archive.
