Announcements:

  • Instruction Showcase
    • Six of the accepted presenters for the 2017 Instruction Showcase agreed to participate in the webinar format on Thursday, June 15.
    • PowerPoint presentations and handouts from Showcase presenters must be sent to CARLI by Monday, June 12, to be loaded into the presentation software.
    • Showcase presenters who would like to do a run-through of their presentations prior to the webinar may contact Debbie to schedule during the weeks of May 29 or June 5.
    • Descriptions of the Showcase presentations will be put on the CARLI website, and the event registration email will be sent this week. Presenters will be emailed today or tomorrow.
  • Co-chairs of the Instruction Committee for 2017-18 will be elected during the next conference call meeting. Mackenzie Salisbury is willing to be a co-chair.

Decisions:

  • Instruction Showcase
    • The Showcase in webinar format will be structured as two one-hour-and-fifteen-minute sessions with three presenters per session, each presenting for 15-20 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes for questions.
    • The first session in the webinar will be from 10:00 – 11:15 a.m., and the second session will be from 1:00 – 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 15.
    • Presenters in each session will be:
      • Group A: 10:00am-11:15am (April and Christina)
        • Molly Beestrum, Columbia College. “Finding and Citing Images: Responsible Use of Fashion Images.”
        • Kirstin Duffin, Eastern Illinois University. “Managing References with Citation Management Software.”
        • Stephanie King & Susan Markwell, Illinois Valley CC. “A la carte Instruction.”
      • Group B: 1:00pm-2:15pm (Colleen? And Christina)
        • Krista Bowers Sharpe, Western Illinois University. “The Scholarly Article Autopsy: Information Sources from the Inside Out.”
        • Martinique Hallerduff & Jennifer Lau-Bond, Dominican/Harper. “Interrogating Sources with First Year Students.”
        • Sara Dick & Susan Franzen, Illinois State University. “Traversing the Terrain of 21st Century Publishing: A Practicum.”
  • The survey of membership will be passed to the 2017-18 Instruction Committee to complete.

Assignments:

  • Lora will reformat the report she and Mackenzie wrote for the "Scaling Up" webinar to more closely match the format Matt and April used for the report for the "Librarian Transformation" webinar by May 22.
  • Current committee members will communicate with Larissa and Christina by June 6 if interested in serving as co-chair of the committee for 2017-18.
