Introduction
In February 2015, ACRL released their Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education—envisioning it as a “cluster of interconnected core concepts, with flexible options for implementation, rather than on a set of standards or learning outcomes, or any prescriptive enumeration of skills.” In 2016-2017, the CARLI Instruction Committee developed a Toolkit to map those instructional activities taught at the CARLI Instruction Showcase to the Framework, with the hopes that instruction librarians could use these presentations as resources for creating and/or re-imagining their own library instruction to accord with the Frames. During 2020-2021, the CARLI Instruction Committee revised the Bibliography section of the Toolkit to reflect how the Framework has been utilized and critiqued since its inception.
Frames
The Frames are presented alphabetically. Instruction Showcase presentations are categorized by corresponding Knowledge Practices and Dispositions.
Please note that while all presentations have been assigned to at least one knowledge practice, dispositions are only designated when given by presenters.
Authority is Constructed and Contextual
Information Creation as a Process
Information Has Value
Research as Inquiry
Scholarship as Conversation
Searching as Strategic Exploration
Other Tools
In addition to those presentations grouped under the Framework in the above six frames, there have been several presentations given at the CARLI Instruction Showcases that did not necessarily relate to the Knowledge Practices of a specific Frame. These presentations featured tools for instruction, assessment, and/or outreach techniques.
